User Studio (R&D) – Culture is Data

Promoting cultural activity in France

In short

How many exhibitions take place in France each year? How many of them are temporary exhibitions? We wanted to answer these questions with the Culture is Data project, a report that presents all French cultural events in a new light.

Challenges

Culture is Data is a report that presents all French cultural events in a new light. Here, the data comes from Etalab, the branch of the Ministry of Culture that handles the distribution of the institution's public data. Indeed, form and image, when articulated together, make it possible to enhance the information and increase its intelligibility.

Our involvment

With this project, which was born out of an internal desire to experiment, we wanted to illustrate the ability of computer graphics to convey information in an understandable and emotional way. This report allowed us to exploit and create different dataviz and creative coding techniques, to consolidate our library of automatic visualisation methods and technologies.
