Home Book System: energy consumption using the intercom

In 2014, Urmet asked us to conceive, design and produce its application dedicated to energy consumption in residential buildings.

In fact, Urmet produces the "Home Book System", an intelligent video intercom system installed in the flats of many new buildings and intended to be the real nerve centre of each home. Capable of opening the building door, offering reminders, managing remote access, the HBS is also able to retrieve information on water, gas and electricity consumption in each flat, provided that the installation allows it. A gold mine of information on energy use! As this data was not yet being used, we had to create the architecture that would allow us to display it to residents in an interesting way to help them manage their consumption.

The first tree structure was born:

And the main screens followed shortly afterwards. Firstly, the energy consumed during the month was represented using a concept of very tangible metaphors for the three utilities in question: electricity consumption is counted in batteries, water is measured in jerry cans and gas in gas bottles. Instantaneous energy consumption is illustrated to brighten up the system and present dry, numerical data in an animated way that is easily interpreted by the human eye. The result, in terms of the home view, offers a combination of the two main levels of information, in the rather small space on the entry phone:

A wealth of detailed screens and settings:

After an even more detailed definition in the form of wireframes and the creation of a graphic charter, the screens naturally emerged. The home view contains:

As well as, for example, the detailed view in terms of instantaneous water consumption:

Or the detailed views of the accumulated consumption and use of gas:

Finally, as another example, a setup view that stands out clearly from the results display screens:
